The decision at the heart of it

A Hungry shrine offers more points and possible boons, but its exact symbol order may cost more heat than a safer Quiet offering.

Twelve cards, three offering sockets, and a pilgrimage of six shrines.

Choose a Quiet or Hungry destination at each stage, with every future destination visible from the beginning. Quiet shrines ask for an exact total and cool more heat. Hungry shrines demand an exact Soot-and-Chalk sequence as well, rewarding successful offerings with more points and opportunities to gain boons.

Place cards into ordered sockets and refill your hand. Neighboring matching symbols add heat. Burn a card to choose between two replacements, or remove a misplaced offering at a heat cost. Each change can bring the solution closer while pushing the run toward its limit.

Choose boons that can be used once per shrine to reduce a burn, soften a placement, or swap two offerings. Heat resolves before a completed shrine cools you, so a costly final card can still end the run. Survive all six shrines to earn the completion bonus.

How a game unfolds

  1. Choose a Quiet or Hungry shrine from the visible route ahead.
  2. Place cards into three ordered sockets, or spend heat to burn or remove a card.
  3. Complete the exact offering before heat reaches nine, then carry your remaining heat into the next shrine.
